Bloodstone is a dark green variety of chalcedony (a cryptocrystalline form of quartz) characterized by red to reddish-brown spots or streaks, which resemble drops of blood—hence the name. These “blood-like” spots are caused by iron oxide or hematite inclusions. The base green color can range from a deep forest green to a slightly bluish or mossy green tone.
